Lawton Prior and Mecklenburgh Ltd (L P and M) are a Property Management company based in Watford High Street; offering management services for rental properties (residential and commercial) leasehold properties and block management including service charges.
Established in March 1919, L P and M are the longest established estate agent in Watford celebrating 100 years this year.
The Estate Agency Business, then known as Lawton & Wright was originally founded in Watford by William (Bill) Lawton and Edwin Wright just after the First World War. Bill, despite severe shellshock, continued to practice for 40 years until he sold the business in 1959 to Rowland Mecklenburgh and Bob Coward. Shortly after the sale, Peter Prior joined the practice and the firm became known as Lawton Prior & Mecklenburgh Chartered Surveyors.
The firm is based in premises at 168 High Street which they have occupied since 1933 (formally The Old Post Office). The L P and M of today is run by Rowland’s son Howard Mecklenburgh who is a Chartered Surveyor and a Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
The longevity of L P and M is largely due to its ability to adapt to an ever changing property market.
